Psilocybe semilanceata, commonly known as the liberty cap, is both one of the most widely distributed psilocybin mushrooms in nature, and one of the most potent. These mushrooms have a distinctive conical to bell-shaped cap, and derive both their latin and common name from this appearance (semilanceata means "spear-shaped)(Phygian caps or "Liberty Caps" are a head garment which came to signify freedom and the pursuit of liberty first in the American Revolution and then in the French Revolution)

The name is especially apt, as the compounds which these mushrooms produce in high concentration will often produce feelings of happiness and freedom, along with a healthy dose of questioning reality and the meaning of life.

Spores Lab acquired our Psilocybe Semilanceata genetic (in the format of a wild mushrooms spore print) in early 2021, from some local BC mycology enthusiasts who know a spot where the species grows in Interior BC. Since then we have been hard at work since isolating and refining the genetic to prepare it for sale. We are now confident in offering it, and will continue to refine and culture indefinitely.

Spawning Psilocybe Semilanceata mycelium can be done in a similar fashion to Cubensis (rye, wheat, oat, corn or other grains can be used) however Liberty Caps require the addition of ligneous material (wood) to the substrate in order to fruit. You must add hardwood chips or sawdust to your substrate, and fruiting must be done in cooler conditions (between 10-18C). Typically this species yields less than Cubensis and is quite difficult to cultivate indoors, however has much higher potency.

LIQUID CULTURES SHOULD BE REFRIGERATED, AND ARE VIABLE FOR 2-3 MONTHS.

Agar Culture Option Includes: 1x Psilocybe Semilanceata Isolate Agar culture in a 100x15mm Parafilm-wrapped Petri Dish.

AGAR CULTURES ARE VIABLE FOR 1-2 MONTHS.

Master Culture Option Includes: 1x Fully Colonized Psilocybe Semilanceata Mushroom Spawn Culture in a 1L polypropylene jar or 3L spawn bag.

MASTER CULTURES SHOULD BE USED UPON RECEIVING.

SPECIES INFORMATION

Habitat: Pacific Northwestern United States/Canada. Not found growing naturally anywhere else in the world.

Climate: Temperate/Oceanic

Strain Origin: Unknown, first classified in Oregon

Cap: 5–25 mm (0.2–1.0 in) in diameter, 6–22 mm (0.24–0.87 in) tall, varies in shape from sharply conical to bell-shaped, often with a prominent papilla (a nipple-shaped structure), does not change shape considerably as it ages, hygrophanous, ochraceous to pale brown to dark chestnut brown, when dry becomes much paler, a light yellow-brown colour. Moist mushrooms have sticky surfaces that result from a thin gelatinous film called a pellicle

Stem: 45–140 mm (1.8–5.5 in) long, 1–3.5 mm (0.04–0.14 in) thick, usually slightly thicker towards the base, yellowish brown

Gills: Adnexed to almost free attached, between 15-27 individual narrow gills, moderately crowded, colour initially pale brown, but becomes dark gray to purple-brown

Spores: Reddish purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia
